| Preparation
for Classes Classes are open to anyone of
reasonable health. Beginners are welcome! Arrive
10 minutes early to set up for class and speak
with the instructor, if necessary. Avoid eating a
large meal before class. Wear comfortable,
stretchy clothing and bring an extra sweater or
sweatshirt. No mats necessary. Note that if you
have a serious medical condition, yoga therapy is
recommended instead.
Description
of Classes
Each class begins and ends
in Shavasana, where you lie on the floor with
your legs propped over fluffy blankets. Christine
then guides you through a body awareness
exercise, to help your body and mind relax. Each
class continues with a few minutes of soothing
breathing practice, followed by twelve to fifteen
yoga poses. The poses are carefully sequenced,
beginning with poses to release the muscles
attached to the tailbone, moving up through the
sacrum, waist, and ribcage. All classes aim to
unlock deep spinal tension, as other themes are
developed, such as stamina building, arm and leg
strength, balance, backbends, forward bends, and
twists. Class times range from 60 to 90 minutes.
